TapHail Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026 · Applies to the TapHail Android app, the TapHail web app (taphail.com) and call-point pages.
TapHail is a push-to-talk app for teams and for emergencies. This page explains what we collect, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how you delete it.
Your location — private by default
- TapHail does not share your location by default. Nobody sees you on the map unless you choose.
- Your position is sent to the people on your channel only when: (a) you raise an SOS; (b) you tap a share-position button; or (c) you switch on Share my location with my team in Settings (you can switch it off at any time).
- If you volunteer as an emergency responder, your position is used to find you when someone nearby needs help. You can stop volunteering at any time.
- If you turn on Track, a journey log is recorded on your phone. It leaves the phone only if you use the share-link feature.
- TapHail only uses location while the app is in use or its on-air notification is showing. We do not request background location access.
What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Name, nickname, email, mobile number, date of birth, profile photo | Your account, being found by teammates, and age checks for responder programs |
| Emergency contact (name, number) | Shown to rescuers if you are unresponsive |
| Voice messages, chat messages, photos and files you send | Delivering them to your channel; voice is kept in a 14-day archive so late joiners can catch up |
| Location (see above), battery level with a shared position | SOS, optional team map |
| Push notification token, device and app version | Delivering calls, invites and emergencies |
| Crash and diagnostic logs | Fixing bugs |
| Business accounts: documents your organisation uploads | Answering questions for your organisation only |
Microphone, camera, Bluetooth/nearby-device and notification permissions are used only for the features you start (talking, photos, phone-to-phone links, alerts).
Who sees it
- Other members of the channels you join see your name, nickname, photo and anything you send.
- During an SOS, nearby responders and your emergency contact receive your position and details.
- Service providers who process data for us: Google (sign-in and Firebase push messages), Apple (Sign in with Apple), our hosting provider, SMS/email delivery providers for verification codes, and Google Gemini for translation and for business Q&A features. Audio or text you ask to translate is sent to the translation provider for that purpose.
- We do not sell personal data and we do not show ads.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Access to servers is restricted. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong sign-in method.
Retention and deletion
- You can delete your account inside the app (Settings → Account & privacy → Delete my account) or at taphail.com/delete-account. Deletion erases your profile, contact details, photo, emergency contact, push tokens, call points and channel memberships. Emergency-incident records needed for safety are kept without your name or contact details.
- Voice archive items expire after 14 days. Messages you sent to a channel may remain in other members' history until they clear it.
Children
TapHail is not for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). Responder programs require adults.
Emergencies
TapHail is not a replacement for your local emergency number. Always call your country's emergency services first when you can.
Your rights and contact
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your data, and to object to processing. Write to hello@taphail.com and we will reply within 30 days. We will post changes to this page and update the date above.
